Tech Fights Off Saints on the Road

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 20-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team won its fifth straight game on Wednesday evening as they defeated Aquinas, 68-58, in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play at Sturrus Sports and Fitness Center and sweeping the season series.
 
Haley Cook led all scorers with 22 points, picked up a game-high five steals, grabbed six rebounds and dished out three assists while playing all 40 minutes of action. Keanna Gary recorded her NAIA-leading 17th double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Kendall Knapke added 15 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals while Baylee Rinehart added 14 points off the bench.
 
Tech would race out to a 10-3 lead just two and a half minutes into the game, with Knapke and Cook each connecting from downtown during the run. Aquinas would cut the deficit to two with an 8-3 run, but the Warriors would respond by ending the first quarter on a 6-2 run to take a 21-15 lead into the first intermission.
 
The Saints would lock down the Warriors in the second quarter, as the visitors went 3-15 from the floor and just 1-9 from the three-point line, while the hosts would use an 13-5 run to take a 30-29 lead into the locker room at halftime
 
The Orange and Black would open the third quarter with a 14-5 to take a 43-35 lead seven minutes into the second half, with Gary and Knapke combining for nine points during the run. A 7-0 spurt would push the lead to 13 for Jessie Biggs' squad as they headed into the final quarter leading 52-40.
 
The Warriors would hold a double-digit lead throughout the final 10 minutes of play, with the Saints only getting as close as 10 twice, with one of those times coming on their final basket of the game with 15 seconds left, as the visitors extended their winning streak in the series to seven games.
 
Tech (18-6, 13-4 WHAC) returns to action on Saturday as they host Concordia for a 1 p.m. tipoff from the Schaefer Center.
