Warriors Dominate Patriots in Season Opener

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The No. 5-ranked Indiana Tech women's lacrosse team opened their 2017 season with a 17-3 win over the University of the Cumberlands on Friday evening at the UC Lacrosse Field.
 
Bailey Childs started the scoring for Tech just 52 seconds into the game as she scored her first career goal in a Warriors uniform while the Orange and Black would triple the lead over the next two minutes and hold a 6-0 lead with 10 minutes gone in the game.
 
Heidi Tremaine would start the running clock with first goal of the game at the 12:22 mark to make it 10-0 Tech while the visitors took a 12-0 lead into the locker room at the half and holding the Patriots to just two shots and forcing 11 turnovers in the opening 30 minutes.
 
The Warriors would continue their offensive outburst in the second half by scoring five more goals to take their season opener, 17-3.
 
McKenna Mesciler led the Orange and Black with five goals in her debut for Tech while Kristina Scott and Heidi Tremaine each recorded three goals each. Childs would led the team in ground balls with five and went 2-2 in free position shots while Sam Vikstrom caused a game-high six turnovers. Sydney Davis got the win in net with four saves.
 
Tech (1-0) returns to action on Saturday as they face off with the University of Charleston at 1 p.m. from UC Lacrosse Field.
