WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The No. 5-ranked Indiana Tech women's lacrosse team defeated the University of Charleston, 17-7, on Saturday afternoon at the UC Lacrosse Field to finish their opening weekend with a perfect 2-0 mark.
Sam Vikstrom put the Warriors up early with a goal in the first minute of the contest, but the Golden Eagles would respond with a goal at 26:49 to the game the game. Tech would counter with goals from
Bailey Childs and
Dakota Dawson to take a 3-1 lead and would score five more goals in the first half to take an 8-5 lead into the locker room at the half.
Just like the first half, Vikstrom would open the second half with a goal early as she scored with just 74 seconds off the clock while adding another goal at 21:25, with
Kristina Scott would add a pair of unassisted goals in between to extend the lead to 12-5.
The Orange and Black would continue their offensive outburst with five more goals in the final 15 minutes to start the 10-goal running clock and matching their season-high in goals.
Scott and Vikstrom would each finish with six goals while
Sydney Davis made four saves for her second win of the season. Vikstrom would add nine draw controls and four caused turnovers while Scott grabbed six ground balls.
Tech (2-0) opens Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play on Tuesday as they take on Aquinas. Opening draw is set for 2:30 p.m. from the Legacy Center in Brighton, Michigan.
