Warriors Outlast Fighting Bees, Storms for Home Opener Win

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 9-ranked Indiana Tech men's lacrosse team opened up its home slate on Tuesday evening with an 18-9 victory over St. Ambrose University at Warrior Athletic Field.

Tech would come out blitzing in the first eight minutes with five goals to open a 5-0 lead, but the Fighting Bees would close the first period strong with three goals in the last two and a half minutes to cut the deficit to 5-3 at the end of the quarter.

The Warriors would outscore the visitors 4-2 in the second, including a goal from Chandler Peterson with one second on the clock, to send the hosts into the locker room up 9-5. Both teams would score a goal in the third quarter, but a line of storms would halt play with seven minutes left in the third.

After an hour lightning delay, the Orange and Black would rattle off five goals in the final seven minutes of the third, including two in the first 1:08, as they took a 15-6 lead into the final period of regulation and hold on for the 18-9 win.

Jace Childs scored a game-high five goals while adding four assists, four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Chandler Peterson recorded four goals, two assists and five ground balls while Lee Raymond grabbed a game-high 10 ground balls and went 19-24 in the faceoff circle. Joe Dosen made 13 saves in goal for his second win of the year.

Tech (2-1) returns to action on Saturday, March 11 as they take on No. 9-ranked Robert Morris (Ill.). Opening faceoff is set for 2 p.m. from Morris Field.
