Tech Storms Back to Down Cardinals in Comeback Win

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 18-ranked Indiana Tech men's staged a 15-point comeback in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) battle as they defeated Concordia (Mich.), 81-76, on Saturday afternoon at the Schaefer Center.

Miles Robinson, one of six Warriors in double figures, scored a game-high 18 points, dished out six assists and grabbed four rebounds while CJ Bussey added 16 points off the bench. Scott Schwieterman would chip in 13 points, Tanner Watkins and Franklin Lindsey would each scored 12 points and Lavonte Davis would record a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds while adding three blocks.

Watkins would open the game on fire as he scored the Warriors first seven points, and nine of their first 11, as the two teams got up and down the court in first five minutes of action. With the game knotted up at 20-all with 10:41 left in the first half, the Cardinals would go on an 11-2 run to take a nine point lead, only to see Tech counter with an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to one with 5:06 left in the half. Concordia would then end the half strong with an 11-8 spurt as they lead 42-38 at the half.

The visitors would open the second half an 11-0 run while the Orange and Black would miss their first four shots from the field in the first 3:15 of the period to increase their lead to 53-38. Tech would slowly chip away at the lead, though, as Lindsey would connect on a three to spark a 13-4 run and cutting the deficit to 65-61 with 8:34 left in the game.

Tech would then go on an 11-0 at the 6:30 mark and held the Cardinals scoreless for nearly five minutes as John Peckinpaugh's team would go up 79-72 with 1:59 to go. A pair of baskets from Jalen Thompson would cut the Warriors lead to three and Concordia would have a chance to tie the game with 23 seconds left in the game, but a three-pointer from Jerald Booker would roll off the rim and Davis would ice the game with his 10th rebound and hitting both his free throws to make it 81-76 while hitting the double-double mark.

Tech (19-7, 14-4 WHAC) returns to action on Wednesday as they travel to Lawrence Tech for an 8 p.m. tipoff from Don Ridler Field House.
