ATHENS, Tenn. – The No. 3-ranked Indiana Tech women's lacrosse team won their fifth straight game to open the season as they defeated No. 8-ranked Tennessee Wesleyan, 11-10, on Sunday afternoon at the TWU Lacrosse Field.
The two teams battled back and forth through the first 15 minutes of the game, with the Bulldogs taking a 4-3 lead at the 16:33 mark. The Warriors would score more goals to take a 6-5 lead, but the hosts would tie the game up at six with 3:14 to go and the two teams would head into the locker room all knotted up at six.
The two national qualifiers from last year would continue to slug it out in the second half, with the Warriors coming back a 7-6 deficit to take an 8-7 lead with 22:38 left in the game, but the Bulldogs would tie it back up with 19:50 to go. Tech would then goals from
Kristina Scott and
Sam Vikstrom at 15:35 and 12:30, respectively, to go up 10-8.
The hosts would tie the game up at 10 with 7:37 to go in the game, but
Heidi Tremaine would score her team-leading 19
th goal of the season and third of the game at 5:42 to put the Orange and Black up for good as the Bulldogs would not record a shot on goal in the final five minutes of the game.
Bailey Childs would join Tremaine with a hat trick while the former would record three draw controls and cause three turnovers. Vikstrom would add four draw controls while
Sydney Davis finished the game with five saves.
Tech (5-0) hosts No. 2-ranked Lawrence Tech on Wednesday in their home opener. Opening draw is set for 5 p.m. from Warrior Athletic Field.
