Fast Start, Quick Answers Propels Warriors to Upset of Number Two Lourdes

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 8-ranked Indiana Tech men's lacrosse team got one of its biggest wins in program history as they upset No. 2-ranked and undefeated Lourdes, 14-7, in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action Wednesday evening at Warrior Athletic Field.
 
Chandler Peterson made it 1-0 Tech just 36 seconds into the game while Will McKinney doubled the hosts lead 19 seconds later. Lourdes would respond and cut the deficit to 4-3 with 3:54 to go in the first quarter, but McKinney would answer back with a man-up goal to at the 3:37 mark to spark a 3-0 run from the Orange and Black as Tech took a 7-3 lead with 10:36 left in the second quarter.
 
Trailing 9-5 at the half, the Gray Wolves would put in their sixth goal of the night just 15 seconds into the third quarter, but Tech would score four unanswered goals from the 7:43 mark in the third to the 3:16 mark in the fourth to go up seven goals as the Orange and Black completed the upset and kept the record perfect in conference play.
 
Tech would outshoot the visitors 26-12 in shots on goal while Lourdes would commit 25 turnovers in the game.
 
McKinney finished with a career-high eight goals while Peterson added four goals of his own. Jordan Reyes grabbed a team-high five ground balls and caused three turnovers and Jos Dosen made five saves for the win.
 
Tech (8-2, 4-0 WHAC) continues its tough schedule Saturday as they travel to No. 10-ranked Siena Heights in a crucial conference matchup. Opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m. from O'Laughlin Stadium.
