FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech softball team was swept by Northwestern Ohio, 3-1, and 13-6, on Wednesday afternoon in their Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) and home opener at the Fort Wayne Softball Field.
Tech would work out of a pair of jams in the first two innings of game one, but the Racers would take a 2-0 lead in the third as Joey Brinegar would smash a homer to center to break the scoreless tie.
Alexis Vargo would cut the deficit in half a single to score
Kelsey Robinson from second, but Heather Sanderson would settle into a grove and not allow another Warrior past second base as she finished with a complete game one-run victory.
The second game would feature 29 hits between the two teams, with Northwestern Ohio putting up crooked numbers in the first and second to hold a 5-0 lead after an inning and a half. The Orange and Black would come back with a three-spot in the second as
Selena Schulteis lifted one over the center field wall to cut the deficit to 5-3 while
Caitlyn Walter drove in
Brianna Glass to make it a one-run game in the third.
The Racers would respond quickly though as they scored four runs in the fourth and two in the fifth to increase their lead to 11-6.
Madison Ohnesorge and
Lauren Ohnesorge would each record RBI singles in the fourth while Walter and Foltz each had a double in the game.
Tech (3-19-1, 0-2 WHAC) returns to action Saturday as they start a 14-game road trip, with the next 12 games being played in the state of Michigan, beginning with Siena Heights. First pitch is set for 11 a.m. from Christensen Memorial Softball Field.
