WINONA LAKE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team split the final two games of their weekend at the Grace Lancer Classic, sweeping Silver Lake (25-9, 25-10, 25-10) and falling to Grace in four sets (17-25, 25-18, 20-25, 20-25) at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center.
Jordan Aylward would lead the way for the Warriors in their first game of the day, recording six kills and hitting .455 while
Karli Jones dished out 11 assists. Tech would trail for just one point in the three sits and used five different runs of four consecutive points or more to hold the Lakers to just 29 points in the match.
The Orange and Black would fall behind early to the host Lancers in their final game of the weekend, with Grace 6-0 run to go ahead 13-4 run in the first before taking the first set 25-17. Trailing 6-3 in the second, Tech would rattle off six straight points to take a 9-6 lead before using another 6-0 spurt to race out to a 20-11 lead and even the match at one set apiece.
The final two sets would be back and forth affairs between the two teams, with Grace taking a late lead in the third set before the Warriors used a 4-0 run at set point to put the pressure on the hosts, but it wasn't enough as the Lancers took a 2-1 set lead with a 25-20 win. Trailing 6-5 in the fourth, Tech would go on a 6-0 run to take an 11-6 lead and appeared to be heading to a fifth set, but the hosts would end the match on a 7-0 run to take the game 25-20.
Mara Zell would led Tech with a career-high 11 kills while
Aubree Eggers added 10 of her own with a .364 attack percentage.
Karli Jones and
Autumn Stokes each recorded 20-plus assists while
Madeline MacDonald led both teams in digs with 19.
Tech (2-2) returns to action next weekend with the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational, where they will take on Indiana University East and Taylor on Friday, September 1 at Luckey Arena.
