LIVONIA, Mich. – The No. 9-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team extended its winning streak to 11 games on Wednesday evening as they defeated Madonna, 74-43, in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action at the Activities Center to pick up their 20
th win of the season.
Keanna Gary registered her 15
th double-double of the season with a team-high 21 points and 20 rebounds.
Haley Cook added 20 points, two assists, two rebounds and two steals while
Kendall Knapke had 13 points and six rebounds.
DeAnn Kauffman chipped in eight points, four rebounds and two steals off the bench while
Rachel Bell stuffed the stat sheet with seven points, five rebounds and five assists.
The Crusaders would jump out to a 6-0 lead over the Warriors and held them scoreless for the first three minutes and 40 seconds of the game. Cook would put the visitors on the scoreboard with a three-pointer to spark a 7-0 run for Tech as they took the lead with 4:13 left in the first. The two teams would trade baskets over the next four minutes, but the Warriors would hold a 14-12 lead at the first break.
The Orange and Black would start the second quarter on an 8-2 run to take a 22-14 lead with 7:02 to go in the period and force the hosts to call a timeout. Madonna would close the half on a 10-1 spurt though, and held the Warriors scoreless for nearly the last seven minutes of the half and forcing five turnovers to take a 24-23 lead into the locker room.
The number nine team in the nation would find its offensive stroke in the second half though, shooting 57.6% from the floor in the final 20 minutes of action while they turned up the pressure on the defensive end as well, limiting the Crusaders to just seven made field goals in the second half and just one three-pointer. An 8-0 run for the Warriors would put them up 36-26 with 5:43 left in the third and closed the quarter on a 12-2 run to take a 50-32 lead into the fourth.
The Orange and Black would continue to dominate the Crusaders into the final 10 minutes of action as they outscored the hosts 24-11 and grow their lead to as many as 33 points to complete the season sweep of Madonna.
Tech (20-2, 11-1 WHAC) returns to action on Saturday as they host Cornerstone in a rematch of their only conference loss to date. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
