Warriors Improve Win Streak to Seven Games with 74-68 Win over Blue Devils

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The No. 10-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team improved their winning streak to seven games on Wednesday evening as they defeated No. 22-ranked Lawrence Tech, 74-68, at Don Ridler Field House in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action.
 
Keanna Gary scored a season-high 28 points and grabbed a game-best 12 rebounds for her 12th double-double of the season while getting four steals. Haley Cook added 19 points and four rebounds while Baylee Rinehart chipped in nine points off the bench. Rachel Bell dished out a game-high nine assists while adding six points and three rebounds.
 
The Warriors returned to conference action with a quick 9-2 lead in the first five minutes over the second-place team in the WHAC, but the Blue Devils would respond with a 9-4 spurt to cut the deficit to 13-11 with 2:26 to go in the first quarter.
 
A pair of free throws from Rinehart would give Tech a 14-11 lead after the first 10 minutes, but Lawrence Tech would take their first lead of the game at 25-24 with 4:13 left in the second following an 8-4 run. The two sides would trade the lead over the next two possessions, but the Orange and Black would take a seven-point lead at 35-28 with 74 seconds left in the half, with Cook hitting back-to-back three-pointers to cap the run. LTU would score the next five points, all off free throws, to make it 35-32 game but a triple from Cook would give the visitors a 38-33 lead at the half.
 
The hosts would start the third quarter on an 8-2 run to retake the lead at the 6:35 mark, only to see the Warriors go on a 7-0 spurt, with Gary scoring the first five points of the run, to take a 45-41 lead just a minutes and 29 seconds later. Tech would extend its lead to 10 with 1:56 left in the period and headed into the fourth leading 62-53.
 
The Blue Devils would turn up the pressure in the fourth though, using a 10-2 run to cut the deficit to 64-62 with four minutes to go in the game and holding the Warriors scoreless for 6:01. A bucket from Bell would end the drought at the 3:02 mark and give a four-point lead to the visitors, who would hold off the hosts thanks to an offensive rebound from Bella Lozano-Dobbs with 17 seconds to go in the game and two made free throws from Cook as Tech extended its lead over the Blue Devils to a full game in the conference standings.
 
Tech (16-2, 7-1 WHAC) returns to action Saturday as they make the short trip to Lima, Ohio to battle the University of Northwestern Ohio to conclude a three-game road swing. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. from Racer Gymnasium.
