Box Score FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's ice hockey team returned to action on Friday night as they defeated ACHA Division I No. 18-ranked Midland, 7-5, at Sidner Ice Arena, and extended their program-best winning streak to nine games.
"Midland is always a tough team to play against, and tonight was no exception," head coach
Frank DiCristofaro said. "It's always exciting to play in these rivalry games. I think tonight was a good team win for us."
Tech would get out to a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes thanks to a pair of goals from
Brian Skillicorn while the visitors would double their lead in the second period to 4-2, with
Jace Childs lighting the lamp on both goals.
Midland would cut the deficit down to one with a goal early in the third period, and then used a pair of power play goals to tie the game up at 4-4 before going ahead with six and a half minutes left on the clock.
Joe Molfetta would tie the game up with 4:55 left in regulation though, and
Jarrett Pfeiffer would then find the back of the net with 54 seconds left in the game to give the visiting Warriors the 6-5 lead. Childs would tack on an empty netter with 11 seconds on the clock to record his second hat trick of the season as Tech picked up the win in their first game since December 9.
John Slavik made 26 saves in net to pick up his ninth win of the season.
Tech (16-0-1) returns to action on Saturday as they conclude their season series against Midland. Puck drop is set for 8:30 p.m. EST from Sidner Ice Arena.
