Warriors Handle Blue Devils in WHAC Contest

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's ice hockey team defeated Lawrence Tech, 7-1, on Friday evening at the SportONE/Parkview Ice House in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action.

"I thought we got to the net better tonight and Bryson Linenburg made some big saves early on," said head coach Frank DiCristofaro. "Overall, I'm happy with the effort and the points in the standings."

The Warriors started the scoring early as Adam Vannelli made it 1-0 just 19 seconds into the game while Stavros Soilis made it 2-0 with a power play goal at the 10:34 mark. Lawrence Tech cut the deficit to one with a power play goal of their own at 12:49 in the second, but goals from Joel Holmberg at 9:13 and 5:14 gave the hosts a 4-1 lead at the end of two periods.

Francesco Corona extended the advantage to 5-1 at 14:21 in the third while Holmberg got a hat trick 35 seconds later to put the Orange and Black up 6-1. Nick Papandrea capped the scoring with 4:53 to go in the game.

Linenberg made 18 saves in net to pick up the win while Corona added a team-high five assists to go along with his goal.

Tech (5-2-0, 5-2-0 WHAC) returns to action Saturday against Lawrence Tech in a nonconference matchup. Puck drop is set for 5:30 p.m. from the SportONE/Parkview Ice House.
