FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's soccer team defeated Cleary University, 3-2, in double overtime Wednesday evening in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action.
Reigning WHAC Offensive Player of the Week
Lily Rothert got the Warriors on the scoreboard in the 35
th minute to take a 1-0 lead while
Julienne Ciacico made it a 2-0 game six minutes later.
The Warriors held the two-goal lead until the 80
th minute on a shot that was blasted from the top of the 18-yard box and hit off the bottom of the crossbar straight down into the goal. The Cougars then tied the match up with 16 seconds to go in the game to force extra time.
After a pair of spectacular saves from both goalies in the first overtime session, Marinna Steffke got a foot on deflected ball inside the 18 and bended it into the back of the net from the left side for the game-winner in the 105
th minute.
Ally Zenda made six saves in goal for the win while
Molly Ames had an assist on Rothert's goal.
Tech (6-11-0, 5-5-0 WHAC) concludes the regular season on Saturday as they host the University of Michigan-Dearborn on Senior Day with a chance to improve their WHAC Tournament seeding. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. from Warrior Athletic Field.
