The Warrior Wraparound #5: All Business

The boys are coming off of a long, tough weekend. The Warriors faced two tough opponents in Lawrence Tech and Western Michigan. They came out of the weekend with one win and two losses. A disappointing result that was hard on the mindset of the team.

Facing a losing streak is never easy, especially for a team that started off 16-0-1 just a year ago. The leaders and the eldest players on the team stepped up and set the tempo for the week. "All business" was the motto for the week of practice and the games for this weekend. The college hockey season is long and can really take a toll on the players. There needs to be a balance of seriousness and staying light. Having a good balance of both helps teams become successful.

There is a quote that says, "Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard." That is one phrase that sticks with many athletes because of the implication it has. You can be the most skilled person on the ice but when you stop working hard, that's when you get defeated. Mistakes can be made when a person is giving everything they have in a game, as long as the mistakes are not being repeatedly made.

You need to have a hard-working mentality in everything you do. Working hard in a sport correlates into everyday life. Getting the little things done and going the extra mile gets you so far in life. Giving that little extra can help you beat out someone else who is going for a job promotion you are striving to get or it could lead to a raise and more responsibility within your job. Having that "blue-collar" mindset can make you stand out from the crowd.

"We need to work hard because our team has so much talent and we can get lost inside ourselves. Situations like last weekend happen where we need to work hard to get that 'puck luck' and finish around the net. That is how we are going to be successful." Those are words from Captain Alex Gregorich. That quote circles back to the theme of being "all business". The Warriors have a long 9-hour bus trip this weekend to Albert Lea, Minnesota where they will face Waldorf College twice on the weekend and the players are all business for the trip. "Our goal is to leave Minnesota with 2 wins and 4 points in the standings. Nothing less."

Tech plays Friday, October 26th at 8:30 P.M. EST and Saturday, October 27th at 8:00 P.M. EST. Both games will be played at Albert Lea City Arena. #EarnIT #GoForIT
