Warriors Beat Foresters in Home Opener

Fort Wayne, IN - The No. 9-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team opened the 2018-2019 season with an 81-61 victory over the Huntington University Foresters at the Schaefer Center Tuesday night. 

The Warriors came out to a large lead early on and by the end of the first quarter they had the lead at 24-5 thanks to an 18-0 run, with four straight three pointers capping the spurt. Tech set the pace in which they were wanting to begin their season with as they held the Foresters to 2-19 from the floor in the first quarter. At halftime, the Warriors saw their lead grow to 57-23.

The Foresters showed more of a fight in the third quarter by outscoring Tech, 21-16. It was more of the same in the final quarter, but Tech closed out the game strong tocapture their first win of the season, 81-61.

Kendall Knapke led the team with 30 points and was 6-9 from three-point range. DeAnn Kauffman would follow with 24 points of her own and added seven rebounds. With nine assists, Bella Lozano-Dobbs led the Warriors in that category. Jenna Szostak would gather 11 points coming off the bench.

The Warriors' shooting percentage for the game was 52.5 compared to Huntington's 30.4. 

Tech's next contest will be against against Marian University November 1 on the road at 6 P.M.
