INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 9-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team fell to No. 4-ranked Marian, 81-63, on Thursday evening at the PE Center in a nonconference showdown.
Bella Lozano-Dobbs led the Warriors with 16 points and three steals, while
Alexis Hill had 13 points and seven rebounds.
DeAnn Kauffman added nine points while
Rachel Bell added seven points and seven rebounds.
The Knights got off to an 11-2 start in the first three and a half minutes into the game and forcing the Warriors to call a timeout. Marian would increase their lead to eight points at the 4:54 mark and held a 22-16 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Tech countered back in the second as they used a 13-6 run to take a 29-28 lead at the 5:21 mark as Kauffman nailed a three-pointer to give the visitors the advantage. Marian would regain the lead following a 10-0 run to end the half with a 38-33 lead.
The hosts continued to grow their lead into the third quarter as they started the second half on a 16-2 spurt, putting the Warriors in a hole that was too big to climb out of. The Knights led by as many as 21 in the fourth quarter as they gave the Orange and Black their first loss of the young season.
Tech (1-1) returns to action Saturday as they host NCAA Division III foe Earlham College. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
