DEARBORN, Mich. – The Indiana Tech men's ice hockey team fell to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) rival and ACHA Division I No. 10-ranked University of Michigan-Dearborn, 4-3, on Friday evening at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena.
"Once we got started, we played well," said head coach
Frank DiCristofaro said. "We also ended the game strong but just couldn't find the back of the net early. We have to start on time tomorrow."
The Wolverines jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first before tacking on two more goals in the final three minutes of the second period to take a 3-0 lead into the final 20 minutes of regulation. Tech's comeback started at 9:54 in the third as
Joey Zappa notched his first collegiate goal.
Mike Tish cut the deficit to 4-2 at 13:27 in the period while
Alex Potter made it a one-goal game two minutes later. UM-Dearborn held off the charging Warriors over final minutes though to give them their first loss of the season.
Francesco Corona had two assists while
Ryan O'Toole made 20 saves in net.
Tech (2-1-0, 2-1-0 WHAC) returns to action Saturday as they host the Wolverines in their weekend final. Puck drop is set for 5:30 p.m. from the SportONE/Parkview Ice House.
