FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 9-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team defeated NCAA Division III foe Earlham College, 69-48, on Saturday afternoon inside the Schaefer Center.
DeAnn Kauffman led all scorers with 16 points while collecting seven rebounds and three blocks.
Kendall Knapke added 13 points and three steals while
Rachel Bell and
Alexis Hills combined to grab 19 rebounds.
The Warriors got off to a slow start as the Quakers led with 7-3 with 4:13 left in the first quarter, but a 12-0 run from the hosts gave them a 15-7 advantage at the 1:44 mark. Tech grew its advantage to 14 points in the second quarter, but Earlham used a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to 30-25 with 1:08 on the clock and trailed 31-25 at the half.
A three-pointer from Knapke to begin the third quarter put the Warriors on a roll as the Orange and Black started outscored the visitors 20-13 in the opening period of the second half as a 13-5 run gave them a 51-38 lead after 30 minutes of play. Tech built the lead up to as many as 21 points in the fourth quarter and didn't allow the Quakers to cut the deficit to under 12 points in the final 10 minutes as they won their second game of the season.
Tech (2-1) returns to action Tuesday, November 6 as they travel to Grace College. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. from the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center.
