Tech Clamps Down on Rochester For Fourth Straight Win

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 9-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team defeated Rochester College, 65-34, on Saturday afternoon in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action inside the Schaefer Center.
 
Jenna Szostak led all players with 16 points on 5-11 shooting from three-point range while DeAnn Kauffman added 11 points and three rebounds. Rachel Bell stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, nine rebounds, six assists and four steals while Alexis Hill had nine points, six rebounds and four assists.
 
The first quarter would be a struggle on the offensive side of the court for both teams as they combined to go 4-24 from the field and commit 10 turnovers. Rochester took the first lead of the game on their opening possession but Tech went on a 6-0 spurt to go up 6-2. The hosts closed the period on another 6-0 run to take a 12-4 lead at the quarter break. Both teams would start to find some shooting rhythm in the second, but the Orange and Black never let their lead drop below nine points in the period as they took a 26-15 lead into the locker room at the half.
 
The Warriors started off the second half on a 15-5 to extend their advantage to 41-20 with 3:22 left in the third quarter while Szostak hit a triple at the buzzer to give Tech a 48-25 lead at the end of 30 minutes. The Orange and Black continued to grow their lead in the fourth quarter as they used a 13-2 run to make it a 61-27 contest while they closed out the win 65-34 to win their fourth straight game.
 
Tech (6-1, 2-0 WHAC) returns to action Tuesday as they host Concordia University (Mich.). Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
