SYLVANIA, Ohio – The No. 7-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team ran its winning streak to eight games on Wednesday evening as they defeated Lourdes University, 71-40, in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play inside the Ebeid Recreation Center.
Kendall Knapke led all scorers with 16 points, three rebounds and three steals while
Alexis Hill had 14 points and a game-high eight rebounds.
DeAnn Kauffman added 13 points and five assists while
Jenna Szostak had nine points and three steals off the bench.
Rachel Bell gave the Warriors the lead a minute and a half into the contest and the visitors never looked back as they went on an 8-0 run to take an 11-3 lead into the first quarter break. Tech would force eight turnovers in the period while the Gray Wolves did not make a single shot (0-9 FG) from the floor. The Orange and Black continued to build their in the second quarter and ended the half on a 9-2 run with Knapke hitting a pair of three's to cap the spurt and give Tech a 31-14 lead at the intermission.
The Warriors put the game away in the third quarter as they outscored Lourdes 23-12 in the period that was powered by an 11-2 run to begin the second half. A pair of free throws from Knapke would start the spurt while the visitors held the hosts scoreless in the last three minutes of the period. A 7-0 run from the Warriors in the fourth quarter gave them their largest lead of the game at 69-31 while they took home their fourth home victory of the season, 71-40.
Tech (9-1, 4-0 WHAC) returns to action Saturday as they travel to Lawrence Tech for a WHAC showdown. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. from Don Ridler Field House.
