SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The No. 7-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team defeated Lawrence Tech, 74-64, in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play on Saturday afternoon at Don Ridler Field House to extend its winning streak to nine games.
DeAnn Kauffman led all players with a career-high 33 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the win.
Alexis Hill had 17 points, seven rebounds and three assists while
Bella Lozano-Dobbs had 12 points.
The Blue Devils got out to a quick 4-0 lead, but the Warriors battled back with a 9-2 spurt to go ahead with six and a half minutes left in the first quarter. Lawrence Tech cut the deficit back down to a point at 15-14, but a jumper from Kauffman gave the visitors a three-point lead at the break as she finished with 10 points in the period.
The Warriors continued to hold the lead in the second by pushing their advantage up to 10 points with just under a minute to play in the half following a 9-0 spurt to counter a 7-1 run from the hosts. LTU scored the last three points of the quarter to make it a 35-28 game at the half.
Tech got the lead back into double digits early in the third quarter following a 9-2 run that made the score 44-30 in favor of the Orange and Black with 5:57 left in the period. A 5-0 spurt from the Warriors couple with a two-minute scoring drought from the Blue Devils gave the visitors a 58-42 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
LTU would threaten but couldn't get the deficit to under 10 points until the final minute of regulation while the Warriors went 8-12 from the free throw line in the final 62 seconds to ice the game away.
Tech (10-1, 5-0 WHAC) steps out of conference action Tuesday as they host Great Lakes Christian College. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
