FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 7-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team defeated Great Lakes Christian College, 127-46, on Tuesday evening inside the Schaefer Center.
Kyra Whitaker scored a career-high 20 points on 9-10 shooting and dished out seven assists while
Jenna Szostak added 18 points.
Kendall Knapke scored 17 points in 17 minutes while
Emma Tuominen added 14 points, five rebounds and four assists off the bench.
Jalyn Foland had 13 points while
DeAnn Kauffman and
Laney Steckler chipped in 10 points each.
Kayla Mallett grabbed a career-best 13 rebounds off the bench.
Kauffman scored the first basket of the game just four seconds after the opening tip to start a 15-4 run for the Warriors. The Crusaders cut the deficit to eight points with 5:23 to play in the first quarter, but Tech rattled off five straight points to push the lead back in double digits for good. Szostak kicked off the second quarter with an 8-0 run as part of a 12-0 spurt as the Orange and Black grew the lead to 46-33 before taking a 58-20 lead into the locker room at the half.
After shooting over 57% from the field in the first half the Warriors would turn up the accuracy in the second half as they shot 62.2% from the floor en route to 69 points, tying the program record for most points in a half.
Tech (11-1) returns to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action Saturday as they welcome in defending conference tournament champion Cornerstone University for their final home game of the semester. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
