FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 7-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team defeated Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) foe Cornerstone University, 93-40, on Saturday afternoon at the Schaefer Center to extend their winning streak to 11 games in their final home game of the semester.
DeAnn Kauffman scored a game-high 22 points and dished out eight assists while shooting 10-14 from the floor.
Jenna Szostak added 15 points on 5-7 shooting from downtown while
Kendall Knapke chipped in 14 points.
Rachel Bell stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, eight assists, five rebounds, four blocks and three steals.
The Warriors opened up the game on a 12-1 run and forced the Golden Eagles to call a timeout at the 5:30 mark in the first quarter. Tech continued to push down on the accelerator as they closed out the period on a 14-4 run, including back-to-back three pointers from Szostak to go ahead 26-7 after 10 minutes of play.
The Orange and Black started the second just as they did the first thanks to an 11-4 spurt that put them up 37-11 with just over five minutes to play in the half. The hosts entered the locker room leading 46-15 thanks to a stifling defense that limited Cornerstone to just 6-23 (26.1%) shooting from the floor and an efficient offense that shot 54.3% from the field and 50% from downtown.
The Warriors continued to pour it on the Golden Eagles in the second half by shooting 60.7% from the floor and 66.7% from three-point range while they held the visitors to just 30% and 20%, respectively, and outscored CU 47-25.
Tech (12-1, 6-0) takes a short break from action with finals next week but will start a three-game road trip next Saturday against Madonna University. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. from the Activities Center.
