Tech Drops Tripleheader in Season Opener

LEBANON, Tenn. – The Indiana Tech softball team dropped their first three games of the 2018 season to Cumberland University on Friday, falling 7-2 in game one, 2-0 in game two and 5-3 in the final game of the set at CU Softball Field.

In game one, Ali LeNoue would supply the offense for the Warriors, going 1-3 with two RBI's that came off a double to bring home Bailey Dembinski and Marta Pasqualini and tie the game at 2-2 in the fourth.

Cumberland opened the game with a pair of singles in the first two innings to provide themselves a 2-0 advantage, but with the double from LeNoue the Warriors would find themselves back in the contest after their half of the fourth. The Phoenix answered back in the bottom half of the inning though, scoring two on a bases clearing double to regain the lead 4-2. It would be all Cumberland for the remainder of the game as they added on two more runs in the fifth and a final run in the sixth to grab the 7-2 decision.

Pasqualini would take the loss after throwing 4.1 innings , allowing six runs, all of which were earned, on eight hits.

In game two, it was Cumberland who would strike early, jumping ahead 2-0 in the second on a single to left. The remainder of the game would be a pitchers' duel as both teams would go scoreless the remainder of the game. LeNoue would again lead the Warriors and go 1-2 with a single down the left field line in the third, to account as Tech's only hit of the game.

Despite throwing six innings and allowing just two runs, both earned, off five hits, Ashley Alvey would take the loss for the Orange and Black.

In a big first inning for the hosts in the final game of the day, the Phoenix jumped out to a 4-0 lead off three singles to right field. Tech answered back in their half of the fourth with Kelsey Reinhardt sending the single to left to advance Abigail Zwicker and score LeNoue. Cumberland would add one more run in their half of the fourth to take a 5-1 lead. The Warriors attempted to put a comeback together with a two out home run from LeNoue to make it 5-3, but it would be the hosts in the end who would take the 5-3 victory and the three game sweep on the day.

Kirsten Wolf would take the loss for Tech after pitching just two outs in the first inning, allowing four runs, all earned, off four hits.

The Warriors (0-3) will take back to the field Saturday for a doubleheader with Cumberland slated for 12 p.m. at CU Softball Field.
