SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Indiana Tech men's ice hockey team snapped a three-game losing streak on Friday evening as they defeated Lawrence Tech, 4-2, in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action at the Southfield Ice Arena and secured the inaugural Tech Challenge Cup with the win.
"We did what we needed to do to win tonight," head coach
Frank DiCristofaro said. "Larry (
Zach Larson) was stellar in net again tonight. I think we did a much better job winning 50/50 pucks today which allowed us to get pucks to the net. It's a good way to start the month of February."
The Blue Devils took a 1-0 into the first intermission after scoring at 9:38 in the period, but the Warriors took control in the second with three goals in six minutes.
Zach Bennett tied the game up a 1-1 with a power play goal at 15:03 before
Jarrett Pfeiffer made it 2-1 just 60 seconds later.
Nick Papandrea gave the Orange and Black a 3-1 lead with 9:04 to go in the period.
The hosts cut the deficit to 3-2 with 15:33 to play in the third, but
Francesco Corona would put the game out of reach with his first career goal at 9:18 to cap the scoring.
Larson made 36 saves in net to pick up the win.
Tech (18-6-1, 5-1-0 WHAC) concludes its season series with Lawrence Tech Saturday. Puck drop is set for 8 p.m. from the Southfield Ice Arena.
