Tech Rallies From 15-Point Deficit to Outlast Rochester

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – The No. 8-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team extended its record-setting winning streak to 16 games on Saturday afternoon as they overcame a 15-point second half deficit to defeat Rochester, 69-65, at Garth Pleasant Arena.

DeAnn Kauffman led all players with a career-high 26 points off the bench while adding four rebounds and two steals. Haley Cook poured in 16 points, seven rebounds and three assists while Keanna Gary notched her 19th double-double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

The host Warriors controlled the game early as they started off the game on a 9-2 run. Tech countered back with a couple of quick spurts to cut the deficit down to three, but Rochester responded with a 7-0 run to make it a 18-8 game with 2:21 to play in the first.

Trailing 18-13 after 10 minutes of play, the visiting Warriors started the second on a 5-0 run to tie the game up at 18 at the 7:10 mark. Rochester used a 14-0 run and a 5:01 scoring drought to take a 35-22 lead into the locker room at the half.

Rochester opened the second half with a basket to go ahead 37-22, their largest lead of the game, and the largest deficit Tech has faced all season. A pair of free throws from Gary though, would spark a 15-0 run, with Kauffman scoring eight of the 15 points in the run, to tie the game up at 37 with 4:15 to play in the third. The two sides would trade the lead three times over the last 4:15 of the quarter, but Tech led 47-46 heading into the final quarter of regulation.

The Orange and Black extended their lead to six at 52-46 with 8:46 to play in the fourth, but Rochester battled back to cut the lead down to one at 55-54 just over two minutes later. Tech took a 61-56 lead at the 4:34 mark following a free throw from Bella Lozano-Dobbs and a three from Kauffman, but the Warriors wearing crimson and white would go on a 7-2 run to tie the game up at 63-63 with 2:11 to play following a triple from Maddy Valko.

A pair of free throws from Lozano-Dobbs gave Tech the lead on their next possession, but Rochester came right back with a basket of their own to tie it up. The Warriors wearing orange and black would come up with a steal with 17 seconds to go and Kauffman calmly sank a pair of free throws with 11 seconds on the clock to put the visitors ahead for good. Cook would sink a pair of insurance free throws while Rochester missed a pair of three-pointers and Tech came away with the 69-65 win.

Tech (25-2, 16-1 WHAC) returns to action next Saturday as they host the University of Northwestern Ohio on Senior Day. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
