OTTAWA, Kan. – The No. 4-ranked Indiana Tech men's lacrosse team defeated Ottawa University, 16-9, on Monday evening in nonconference action at People's Bank Field.
The Braves took the first lead of the game at 11:45 in the first, but goals from
Chandler Peterson and
Andrew Ryan put the Warriors up 2-1 at the 8:37 mark. Ottawa tied the game up with 5:28 in the quarter, but Tech scored twice in the final 70 seconds of the period to take a 4-2 lead after 15 minutes of play, with
Brandon Gates and
Brayden Givens scoring the goals.
The Orange and Black continued to hold the up hand into the second quarter as they added four more goals to take an 8-3 lead at the break. The Warriors opened up the third quarter with a four straight goals to take a 12-4 lead, with Givens and
Noah Puckett both finding the back of the cage on man-advantage opportunities. The hosts cut the deficit to 13-8 at the end of three quarters, but would not get any closer as the Warriors improved to 4-0 on the season with a 16-9 win.
Jace Childs led the Warriors with four goals while
Will McKinney and Peterson each had three.
Evan Schuster made 13 saves in the cage to pick up the win.
Tech (4-0) returns to action Tuesday as they take on Columbia College. Opening faceoff is set for 1 p.m. from R. Marvin Owens Field.
