COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 4-ranked Indiana Tech men's lacrosse team won its fifth straight game to start the season as they defeated Columbia College, 15-6, in a nonconference matchup at R. Marvin Owens Field.
The Cougars took the first lead of the game with 5:34 left in the first quarter, but the Warriors responded with a pair of goals, both scored by
Brandon Gates, in the final 2:07 of the period to take a 2-1 lead into the first break. Tech extended its lead to 4-1 four minutes into the second as
Will McKinney and
Chandler Peterson found the back of the cage.
Columbia answered back with four goals of their own to cut the deficit to 6-5 with 2:51 to go in the half, but
Jace Childs pushed the Warrior advantage to 7-5 20 seconds later while McKinney scored his second goal of the game with just six seconds left on the clock to give the visitors an 8-5 lead at the break.
The fourth-ranked team in the nation showed its dominance in the second half as they outscored the hosts 7-1 in the final 30 minutes of play while they limited Columbia to just three shots on goal to improve to 5-0 on the season.
McKinney led the Warriors with three goals and five ground balls while
Noah Puckett had two goals and three assists.
Joe Dosen made eight saves in the cage to pick up the win.
Tech (5-0) returns to action on Friday, March 23, when they host SCAD-Savannah in their final nonconference game of the season. Opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m. from Warrior Athletic Field.
