FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 3-ranked Indiana Tech men's lacrosse team opened Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play with a 17-6 win over No. 10-ranked Aquinas at Warrior Athletic Field to improve their winning streak to seven games.
The Saints got off to a fast start as they score twice in the first two and a half minutes of the game, but Tech responded with an 11-0 run and took an 11-3 lead into the locker room at the half.
Will McKinney scored the first of his three goals with 11:59 to go in the first while
Brandon Phipps and
Jace Childs scored the Warriors second and third goals at 8:23 and 8:05, respectively, to give the hosts a 3-2 lead.
The Orange and Black tacked on four more goals in the first and continued to pad their lead into the second quarter with four more goals and held the visitors to just one in the period. Tech's defense came up big in the third quarter as they went 6-6 in defending extra-man opportunities while the Warrior offense churned out four more goals in the fourth to give the Warriors the double-digit win over the Saints.
Brandon Gates and
Chandler Peterson each had four goals with the latter adding two assists for a game-high six points.
Taylor Marchan had a game-high seven ground balls while Evan Shuster made 19 saves in the cage to pick up his fourth win of the season.
Tech (7-0, 1-0 WHAC) concludes a three-game homestand Wednesday as they host No. 5-ranked Siena Heights in WHAC play. Opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m. from Warrior Athletic Field.
