FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Fueled by a 7-0 scoring run to begin the second half, the No. 3-ranked Indiana Tech Warriors knocked off No. 5-ranked Siena Heights, 13-7, at Warrior Athletic Field on Wednesday evening to secure their eighth consecutive win to open the 2018 campaign.
Early on, the Saints would take control of the conference affair, netting three goals in the first 10 minutes of play. The Warriors would finally break into the scoring column with 3:40 remaining in the first quarter when senior
Jace Childs recorded his first strike of the evening. Freshman
Brayden Givens cut the lead to 3-2 moments later, but the Saints' leading goal-scorer Shane Lewandowski responded with his second tally to end the first period.
Both teams would remain scoreless through the first 11 minutes of the second period before the back-and-forth action continued. Freshman
Brandon Phipps would end the teams' scoring droughts, narrowing the deficit to one with four minutes left in the frame. Lewandowski and Childs then exchanged goals for the WHAC foes to end the half, providing the away side with a 5-4 advantage headed into the locker rooms.
Following the intermission, Indiana Tech's offense caught fire, stringing together seven successive goals to open the half. Givens would kick off the run in the third frame via an assist from senior
Will McKinney at the 11:39 mark. Childs, Phipps, and junior
Chandler Peterson would follow their teammate's strike to outscore the Saints 6-0 in the third stanza.
The offensive roll would continue into the fourth as freshman
Ian Tyburski beat the visiting netminder just five seconds into the quarter. Peterson and Childs would cap off the nine-goal second half, ensuring Indiana Tech's second conference victory of the season.
The Warriors were guided offensively by Childs who provided four goals and three assists, good for the team lead in both categories. He would also register team-bests with seven ground balls and three caused turnovers. The Orange and Black would receive multi-goal efforts from Givens (3), Peterson (3), and Phipps (2) while McKinney and Peterson had two assists each. Meanwhile, goalkeeper

With Wednesday's victory, the Warriors have now defeated three straight teams ranked in the NAIA Coaches' Top-10 Poll.
Indiana Tech (8-0, 2-0 WHAC) will return to action this Saturday, April 7 when they travel to No. 7-ranked Lourdes University. The conference matchup is set to begin at 5 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium in Sylvania, Ohio.
