PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – The Indiana Tech softball team split a nonconference doubleheader with Trinity Christian Thursday afternoon at the George and June Schaaf Athletics Complex, falling in five innings in game one, 11-0, and winning game two 7-4.
The Trolls jumped all over the Warriors in game one, scoring five runs in the second before tacking on three runs in the third and fourth frames to take a commanding 11-0 lead. Tech's offense was stymied all game by Dara Megyesi, who allowed just two hits in five innings and struck out seven batters in the shutout.
Lauren Ohnesorge went 1-2 with a double at the plate.
Just as quickly as the hosts jumped out in game one, it was the visitors turn to jump out to a quick lead in game two with four runs in the top of the first.
Emily Martin got the visitors on the board with an RBI single while
Rachel Bexley drove in runs three and four with an RBI single of her own. Trinity Christian put up a three-spot in the third to get back in the game, but Tech put the game out of reach in the seventh thanks to an
Alexis Vargo RBI double and a single from Martin.
Ashley Alvey picked up the win while
Amanda Shonka got her first save of the season after going 3.1 innings in relief and allowing just one run on three hits. Martin finished the game going 4-4 with three RBI's and two runs to lead the Warriors.
Tech (9-27) returns to action Sunday as they host the University of Michigan-Dearborn on Senior Day. First pitch of the conference doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. from Havenhurst Park in New Haven, Indiana.
