Warriors Fall to Saint in WHAC Semifinals

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 3-ranked and No. 2-seeded Indiana Tech men's lacrosse team fell to No. 5-ranked and No. 3-seeded Siena Heights, 12-7, on Wednesday evening in the semifinals of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Tournament Semifinals at Warrior Athletic Field.
 
Tech jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first five minutes of the game as Will McKinney and Noah Puckett found the back of the cage at the 12:51 and 10:56 marks, respectively. Siena Heights answered back with four goals of their own though and lead 4-2 with just under 14 minutes to play in the second quarter.
 
The Warriors knotted the game up at 4-4 with 5:26 to play in the first half with McKinney and Brandon Gates doing the scoring for the hosts, but the visitors retook the lead with 4:36 on the clock to take a 5-4 lead into the locker room at the half.
 
The third quarter was another back-and-forth affair with the Saints taking a 7-5 lead in the fourth quarter while they outscored the Warriors 5-2 in the final period to knock Tech out of the conference tournament.
 
Jace Childs led the Warriors with three goals and four ground balls while Joey Provost had seven ground balls and four caused turnovers. Evan Shuster made eight saves in net.
 
Tech (12-2) will now await an at-large bid to the NAIA National Invitational which will take place May 10-12 in Grand Rapids, Michigan at Aquinas College. The official field for the National Invitational will be announced on Sunday, April 29.
