GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 3-ranked and No. 3-seeded Indiana Tech men's lacrosse team defeated No. 7-ranked and No. 6-seeded Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), 16-13, in the NAIA National Invitational Quarterfinals Thursday morning at the Aquinas College Athletic Field.
The Bees struck first just 30 seconds into the game, but a 3-0 run from the Warriors over the next four minutes gave them a 3-1 lead while the Orange and Black headed into the first quarter break leading 5-2. SCAD responded with a four goal spurt to open the second and go ahead 6-5 with 3:53 to play in the first half, but Tech answered right back with a pair of goals from
Jace Childs at the 2:41 and 1:39 marks to take a 7-6 lead into the break.
Will McKinney made it an 8-6 game 41 seconds into the third quarter to start a 4-0 run for the home team on the scoreboard as they increased their lead to 11-6. The Bees would not go down without a fight though as they cut the deficit down to just a single goal at 14-13 with 7:06 to play in the game, but McKinney and
Andrew Ryan scored with 4:03 and 1:48 on the clock, respectively, to put the game out of reach as Tech advanced to the semifinals of the national tournament for the second consecutive season.
Childs finished the game with five goals, three ground balls and two caused turnovers while McKinney had four goals and seven ground balls.
Noah Puckett dished out three assists while
Andrew Neller went 16-27 in the faceoff-x and recorded seven ground balls.
Tech (13-2) returns to action Friday as they will take on No. 2-ranked and No. 2-seeded Reinhardt at 4 p.m. from the Aquinas College Athletic Field.
