FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's soccer team fell to in-state foe Goshen College, 3-2 on Friday evening in their 2018 regular season opener at Warrior Athletic Field.
The Warriors controlled the momentum in the early stages of the game, recording three shots on goal in the first 10 minutes of the action, but they were stifled by keeper Katie Baer. Goshen struck first in the 35
th minute and extended their lead to 2-0 in the 61
st minute.
Kelsey Combs cut the deficit to one in the 72
nd minute after she slid a shot past Baer off the free kick from
Sydney Lemelin while
Lily Rothert knotted the match up at 2-2 eight minutes later as she corralled a rebound off the header from
Kayla Saffran.
The Maple Leafs would score the go-ahead goal in the 86
th minute as they took advantage of a scramble in the box to get one past
Ally Zenda and controlled the ball in the final minutes to spoil the Warriors season opener.
Rothert finished with a team-best three shots on goal while Lemelin had two. Zenda made one save in her collegiate debut.
Tech (0-1-0) returns to action on Tuesday, August 28 as they start a three-game road trip at Trinity Christian. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. EDT from the George and June Schaaf Athletics Complex.
