Tech Splits to End Weekend at Red Wolves Invitational

RICHMOND, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team concluded their weekend at the IU East Red Wolves Invitational Saturday with a split, falling to the host Red Wolves, 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-21) before sweeping Saint Louis College of Pharmacy (25-19, 25-9, 25-14) to stay above the .500 mark for the year.

Jordan Aylward and Madeline MacDonald were named to the All-Tournament Team after impressive weekends. Aylward led the team in kills (38) and blocks (13) while hitting .220 and averaging 2.92 kills per set while MacDonald had a team-best 89 digs, averaging 6.85 digs per set.

Tech jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first set of match number one of the day, which started at 8:30 a.m. in Lingle Court. The Warriors extended their advantage to 14-10, but the Red Wolves used a 7-1 run to take a 17-15 lead before going up 20-16. Tech fought back to make it a 24-23 set, but IU East took the set on its third set point to go up 1-0.

The second set was a back-and-forth affair through the first 27 points, but IU East went on an 11-0 run to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match. The Red Wolves continued their momentum into the third with a 9-4 spurt and a 5-0 run to take a 14-8 lead. Leading 24-14, it was the Warriors turn to go on a run as they won the next seven points to cut the deficit to 24-21, but the hosts stopped the run there with a kill to complete the sweep.

Aylward led the team in kills (6) and blocks (4), Autumn Stokes dished out 14 assists and dug out 11 balls for the double-double, while MacDonald had 18 digs to lead the team.

The Warriors rebounded in their final match of the weekend with a sweep of Saint Louis College of Pharmacy, their third of the young season. Leading 10-9 in the first, Tech rattled off six straight points off the serve of Stokes to go up 16-9. The Eutectics cut the deficit down to 18-14, but that would be as close as they would get with Tech taking it 25-19.

The Orange and Black started the second set on fire with a 7-0 run before using an 8-0 spurt to take a 22-6 lead en route to the 25-9 win and a 2-0 set lead. The Warriors would get off to a hot start again as they led 9-2 after 11 points. The Eutectics used a 5-0 spurt to make it a 10-9 game, but an 8-0 run from the Warriors put the match out of reach as they went on to win 25-14 to complete the sweep.

Courtney Mack had a team-high 10 kills and hit .429 while Aubree Eggers and Aylward each had nine kills and hit over .300. MacDonald had 16 digs on the match while Stokes quartered the offense with 22 assists.

Tech (5-3) heads to Sylvania, Ohio on Wednesday, September 5 as they open Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) against Lourdes. First serve is set for 7 p.m. from the Ebeid Recreation Center.
