Warriors Topped by Gray Wolves in WHAC Opener

SYLVANIA, Ohio – The Indiana Tech women's volleyball team fell to Lourdes, 3-1 (25-15, 18-25, 25-17, 25-18), in their Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) opener Wednesday evening inside the Ebeid Recreation Center.

The Warriors held tough with the Gray Wolves through the first 18 points of the first set and trailed just 10-8, but a 4-0 run from the hosts gave them a 14-8 advantage. Tech managed just six more points the first of the set as Lourdes took the early 1-0 lead.

The Orange and Black raced out to an 8-2 lead in the second thanks to a 3-0 and 4-0 spurt, with Allison Cole registering three kills during the run. Lourdes came back to cut the deficit to 12-11, but that would be as close as they would get as the Warriors rattled off a 6-2 run to make it an 18-13 game that would eventually tie the match up at 1-1.

The hosts fired back to start the third with a 4-0 run that extended into a 9-3 advantage. Tech attempted to stay in the set, but the Gray Wolves would hit a blistering .455 in the set en route to a 25-17 win to make it a 2-1 lead for Lourdes. The Warriors jumped out to a 5-1 lead to begin the fourth, only to see Lourdes come right back to knot it up at 5-all. The next dozen points would go back-and-forth between the two teams, but with the set tied up at 17-17, Lourdes scored the next three points and never looked back as they notched the conference win by taking the five of the next six points to complete the 3-1 victory.

Aubree Eggers had a team-high 14 kills and three blocks while hitting .417 for the match. Cole followed up with 11 kills, three blocks and a .381 attack percentage. Autumn Stokes notched her second double-double of the season with 24 assists and 11 digs, while Madeline MacDonald had a match-high 26 digs.

Tech (5-4, 0-1 WHAC) returns to action Saturday as they return to Richmond, Indiana for the Earlham Quaker Classic. They will take on the University of Pikeville and 2 p.m. and Indiana University Southeast at 4 p.m. from the Druley Performance Gymnasium.
