FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women's soccer team defeated Cornerstone, 2-1, Saturday afternoon on Friends and Family Day as part of Homecoming Weekend at Warrior Athletic Field.
Tech jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 16
th minute as
Lily Rothert volleyed one into the top left corner of the goal while
Christina Wynn recorded six saves in the first half to keep it a 1-0 lead for the Warriors at the half.
Marina Steffke doubled the hosts lead just three minutes into the second half as she collected her own rebound off a block to send it to the back of the net for her first goal of the season. The Golden Eagles would get on the scoreboard in the 83
rd minute to cut the deficit in half, but the Warrior defense would not allow any more opportunities as they picked up three points in the conference standings.
Wynn finished with six saves to pick up the win while Steffke and Rothert each had two shots on goal.
Tech (3-7-0, 2-1-0 WHAC) returns to action Wednesday, October 5 as they travel to Madonna University. Match time is set for 3 p.m. from the Madonna Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
