Warriors Fly Away From Cardinals With Fourth Quarter Spurt; Extend Win Streak to 19 Games

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The No. 3-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team won its 19th consecutive game on Wednesday evening as they defeated Concordia University (Mich.), 69-55, in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action inside the Concordia Field House. The Warriors' winning streak now sits as the second-longest in program history and the longest current streak in the NAIA.

Kendall Knapke led all players with 27 points, scoring 20 of them in the second half, while grabbing six rebounds and two steals. Alexis Hill added 20 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals while DeAnn Kauffman chipped in 10 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals. Rachel Bell had six points, 10 rebounds and six assists.

Tech got out to a 7-4 lead following five quick points from Knapke and a basket from Bell, but the Cardinals responded with an 8-1 spurt to take a 12-9 lead with 4:37 to go in the first quarter. A three-pointer from Jenna Szostak would tie the game up at 12 to start a 7-2 run for the visitors to end the period as they held a 16-14 advantage at the end of 10 minutes.

The Orange and Black pushed their lead up to 23-15 five minutes into the second following a 7-1 run, with Szostak hitting her second three of the night at the 5:01 mark to cap the run. Concordia ended the half on an 11-4 run though to make it a 27-26 game at the intermission, the first time since December 21 against then No. 2-ranked Southeastern that a team had been that close to the Warriors at the end of 20 minutes.

The hosts came out of the locker room on a 7-2 spurt to go ahead 33-29 with 6:47 to play in the third quarter to take their largest lead of the game. Concordia held a four-point lead with 3:58 to play in the period, but a 7-2 run from the visitors, with Knapke scoring five of the team's points in the spurt, to take a 43-42 lead into the final 10 minutes of the game.

An 11-0 run from the Warriors would break the game open in the fourth quarter as Tech surged ahead 58-45 with 3:08 to go. A Cardinal basket at the 2:25 mark snapped a 6:23 scoreless drought in which Tech forced five turnovers to finally take control of the contest. Concordia cut the lead down to nine points with 1:38 to play, but the Orange and Black iced the game away at the free throw line by going 9-10 over the final 45 seconds of the game to come away with the 69-55 victory and keep the winning streak alive.

Tech (20-1, 12-0 WHAC) will look to match the longest win streak in program history, set back by the 1991-91 team, on Saturday as they host conference foe Lawrence Tech. Tip-off is set for 11 a.m. (moved up due to the forecasted snow) from the Schaefer Center.
