GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Indiana Tech men's indoor track and field team won its third meet of the season Friday evening as they collected 183.5 points to win the Aquinas Quad Meet inside the Alksnis Athletic and Recreation Building.
Shomari Sommerville qualified for the NAIA National Championships in the high jump with an automatic qualifying mark of 2.02m/6-7.5 to finish second in the event while
Matteo Madrassi tied his season-best in the pole vault with an "A" standard mark of 4.90m/16-0.75 to take home the title.
Malik Johnson hit the "A" standard in the long jump with a leap of 7.12m/23-4.5 to win the event while he also won the triple jump with an automatic qualifying mark of 14.37m/47-1.75.
Nathan Riley won the shot put with a throw of 16.63m/54-6.75 while
DeMarcus Stid won the weight throw with a mark of 15.97m/52-4.75.
Jack Machometa won the 200 meters in a time of 22.65 while he finished fourth in the 60m with a time of 6.94.
Theo White and
Gairy Springer each finished second in the 400 and 600m with times of 51.08 and 1:24.57, respectively.
Kudzanai Karawira and
Justin Fleming won the 1000m and the mile in times of 2:35.16 and 4:33.18, respectively, while
Christian Corrion took second in the 3000m by crossing the finish line in 9:16.56. The 4x800m relay of
Dillan Cerny,
Josue Filsaime,
Jamir Ferguson and
Alex Rodriguez came in second with a time of 7:58.27.
Tech returns to action next weekend with a trio of meets: the Rod McCravy Memorial at the University of Kentucky, the two-day Akron Invitational and the Indiana Wesleyan University Midwest Classic.
