Warriors March Past Saints For 17th Straight Win

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 3-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team defeated Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) rival Siena Heights University, 65-55, on Wednesday evening inside the Schaefer Center. With the victory, Tech extends their winning streak to 17 straight games.

Alexis Hill scored a career-high 23 points while she grabbed a team-best seven rebounds. Rachel Bell notched a season-best 14 points to go along with two rebounds and a pair of assists. DeAnn Kauffman added 10 points, four steals, three rebounds and two blocks while Bella Lozano-Dobbs had six points, five rebounds and three assists.

The two sides would struggle to find the bottom of the net early on as Siena Heights led 4-3 after three minutes of action, but a 9-4 run from the Warriors put them ahead 11-8 at the 3:08 mark. The Saints would come right back to tie the game up at 13-13 to end the first quarter while holding Tech to just two points over the final three minutes of the period.

The teams continued to trade baskets in the second quarter before an 8-0 run for the Orange and Black, coupled with a 2:26 scoreless drought from the visitors, gave the hosts a 26-19 advantage at the 3:59 mark in the second. Tech closed the half on a 7-1 run to take a 33-22 lead into the locker room.

A pair of baskets by Hill would open the second half to give the Warriors a 15-point lead at 37-22, their largest of the game, with 8:12 to play in the third quarter. The Saints came right back with an 8-2 run to cut the deficit to 39-35 and used a 17-12 scoring advantage in the period to make it a 45-39 game at the end of three quarters.

The Saints continued to threaten the Warriors throughout the final period, cutting the deficit down to three points with 5:24 to play following a 9-2 run. Tech dug deep though, countering with a 9-2 run to grow the lead back up to 10 points with 2:13 to go. Siena Heights would get a three-point play from Demi Russell on their next possession to make it a seven-point contest at the 1:54 mark, but that would be as close as they would get as the Warriors notched their 17th consecutive win and their 15th victory by 10 points or more.

Tech (18-1, 10-0 WHAC) hits the road on Saturday as they travel to Cornerstone to begin the second half of conference play. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. from Mol Arena.
