Warriors Come Out on Top in Battle of the Tech’s

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – The No. 15-ranked Indiana Tech men's ice hockey team defeated Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) rival Lawrence Technological University with an 8-3 victory Friday evening inside the Farmington Hills Ice Arena.

Francesco Corona and Daniel Spannar each scored twice for Tech while Nick Papandrea had three assists and Cameron Chabot had two. Bryson Linenburg made 17 saves to improve to 5-0 on the season.

The Warriors jumped all over the Blue Devils in the opening period as they scored three goals, two of which game in a 2:18 stretch, and outshot the hosts 12-7. Corona netted the first goal of the game seven minutes into the game while Spannar made it a 2-0 game with 9:29 off the clock.

LTU came back strong in the second with two goals in the first 10 minutes of the period, including a short-handed goal from Parker Hodgers. The Orange and Black countered back with two power play goals though, coming from Zach Bennett and Mike Tish, to make it a 5-2 game at the end of 40 minutes.

The hosts would not go down lightly though, scoring on a power play just 46 seconds into the third period to cut the deficit to 5-3, with the Warriors third power play goal came with 7:19 gone in the period as Tim Holmstrom found the back of the net to make it a 6-3 game. Spannar converted on a short-handed opportunity with just under five minutes left while Corona netted his second goal of the game with 17:30 off the clock to cap the scoring.

Tech (6-2-0, 4-1-0 WHAC) returns to action on Saturday as they host Lawrence Tech at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse. Puck drop is set for 5:30 p.m.
