GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Indiana Tech women's soccer team fell to Cornerstone University, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon inside the CU Soccer Stadium in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play.
The Warriors found themselves trailing just five minutes into the match as Alexys Riksen notched her sixth goal of the season for the Golden Eagles, but
Kayla Saffran converted a rebound off a penalty kick for Tech in the 39
th minute for her third goal of the year. The Orange and Black had a shot on target just before the half, but it was stopped by the CU keeper to keep the tie intact at the break.
The hosts wasted little time in the second half to regain the lead as they scored eight minutes into the period to take a 2-1 lead before adding an insurance goal in the 75
th minute.
Saffran finished the game with two shots on goal while
Riley Stafford made a career-high nine saves in the loss.
Tech (4-6-0, 0-3-0 WHAC) returns to action on Wednesday, October 9 as they host Madonna University in a conference matchup. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. from Warrior Athletic Field.
