Warriors Ground Eagles with Program Record 12 Goals

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 22-ranked Indiana Tech men's ice hockey team recovered from a disappointing 2-1 loss on Friday night with a dominating 12-1 victory over Eastern Michigan in nonconference action inside the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse.

The 12 goals set a program record for a single game while Joel Holmberg tallied his fourth career hat trick in the win. Cam Chabot had four assists while adding a goal for a game-high five points. Cole Barney had three assists, Filip Schultz and Zach Bennett both scored twice while Bryson Linenburg made 13 saves for his second win of the season.

It wouldn't take long for the Warriors to get on the scoreboard as Holmberg made it a 1-0 game at the 15:06 mark in the first while Adam Vannelli made it a 2-0 game just 76 seconds later. Eastern Michigan showed toughness in the first period though, coming back with a goal at the 11:19 mark to cut the deficit in half and trailed by just one at the first intermission.

After a scoreless first 10 minutes of the second period, Tech got to work in the final 10 minutes as they scored four times, with Schultz notching a power play goal while Cameron Wirick scored on the penalty kill to make it a 4-1 game at the 5:07 mark. The Warriors broke the game open in the final two minutes of the period as Holmberg scored his second goal of the night with 1:40 left to play while Bennett found the back of the net with 30 seconds on the clock to make it a 6-1 contest.

The Orange and Black continued to pour on the goals in the third as they scored six times, all by six different players, with Holmberg getting the hat trick at the 10:11 mark, as they ended Homecoming Weekend on a high note.

Tech (2-1-0) returns to action on Friday as they open Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play against Aquinas College in Bryson Center, Michigan. Puck drop is set for 8 p.m. from Southside Ice Arena.
