LIVONIA, Mich. – The Indiana Tech men's soccer team moved into sole possession of first place in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) standings Wednesday afternoon as they upset No. 15-ranked Madonna University, 2-1, at the Madonna Soccer and Lacrosse Field on the Madonna Athletic Campus.
Tech took the early lead in the game as
Jaime Tenorio connected with
Brendan Sidaway in the third minute of the match. The Crusaders answered back in the 36
th minute with a free kick that found its way into the back of the net from 30 yards out and the two sides went into the half all knotted up at 1-1.
The visitors went back ahead in the 52
nd minute as
Scott McCarthy headed in a free kick into the box from
Luke Jones. Madonna attempted to answer late as they peppered Tech keeper
Edwin Rosado with four shots on frame and finished the game with a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal, but were stymied in all their changes to tie the game as the Warriors extended their win streak to four games.
Rosado finished the match with nine saves while
Pep Casas had two shots on goal.
Tech (7-4-0, 4-0-0 WHAC) returns to action on Saturday, October 12 as they host Siena Heights University in a conference matchup. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. from Warrior Athletic Field.
