GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 4-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team won its sixth consecutive game Saturday afternoon as they defeated Cornerstone University, 72-48, in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action inside Mol Arena.
Emma Wolfe led the Warriors with 13 points while
DeAnn Kauffman scored 12 points and went over 1,000 for her career while adding four rebounds and two steals.
Laney Steckler scored 10 points off the bench while
Kyra Whitaker had nine points, four rebounds and four steals.
Rachel Bell added eight points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals while
Alexis Hill had eight points, three rebounds and two assists.
Cornerstone raced out to an 8-2 lead over the Warriors through the first four minutes of the game before back-to-back triples from Wolfe and Whitaker brought the visitors within two points. The Golden Eagles held a 13-11 lead at the end of the first quarter, but that would not last long into the second quarter as Tech went on a 7-0 run to take a 18-13 advantage. Cornerstone would not score its first basket of the period until the 6:50 mark, but kept the deficit to single digits for the rest of the half as the Orange and Black took a 33-26 lead into the locker room.
The hosts made it a five-point game at the six-minute mark of the third quarter, but a 9-2 run from Kauffman put the Warriors up 45-33 with 3:21 to go in the period. Tech closed the quarter on a 10-2 run and allowed just one made field goal from Cornerstone in the final four minutes.
The Warriors were never threatened in the fourth quarter as the lead never dipped until 15 points and it grew to as many as 28 points as they won their third straight game against their conference rivals.
Tech (6-1, 3-0 WHAC) returns to action on Tuesday, September 26 as they host Lawrence Technological University in their lone game over Thanksgiving Week. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
