FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 4-ranked Indiana Tech men's ice hockey team defeated Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) foe Rochester University, 10-3, Friday evening at the SportONE/Parkview Icehouse.
"It wasn't out best start, but we had a good push in the second period and that got us going," head coach
Frank DiCristofaro said.
Francesco Corona,
Joel Holmberg and
Cam Chabot each score twice for Tech while Holmberg had three assists for a team-best five points.
Zach Bennett dished out four assists while
Bryson Linenburg improved to 7-0 on the season with 27 saves.'
Adam Vannelli and
Tim Holmstrom each netted a power play goal in the first period to give the Orange and Black a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes of action. Rochester got a burst of momentum in the second with two goals in a three minute period to knot the game up at 3-3, but a goal from
Cameron Wirick at the 5:42 mark led to three unanswered goals before the period was over, with Corona and Holmberg scoring the goals.
The third period was all Tech as they outscored the visiting Warriors 4-0, with Corona and Holmberg netting the first two goals while
Nick Trefry and Chabot capped the scoring.
Tech (10-2-0, 6-1-0 WHAC) returns to action Saturday as they conclude their home-and-home with Rochester in Fraser, Michigan. Puck drop is set for 12:45 p.m. from Fraser Hockeyland.
