FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The No. 7-ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team extended its winning streak to eight games Wednesday evening as they defeated Madonna University 82-62 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action inside the Schaefer Center.
Alexis Hill notched her third double-double of the season with game-highs of 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Kyra Whitaker and
DeAnn Kauffman each had 14 points and four rebounds, with the former dishing out three assists and the latter picking up two steals.
Erika Foy had 12 points and six rebounds off the bench while
Rachel Bell flirted with a triple-double of nine points, eight rebounds and 11 assists.
The Warriors, coming off an eight-day layoff, found themselves trailing 8-4 just three and a half minutes into the contest. A triple from Whitaker sparked a 9-2 spurt to put them on top 15-12 with 3:42 to play in the first quarter. Tech held the Crusaders scoreless for the final 2:12 of the period and extended their lead to 23-18 at intermission.
The Warriors began to assert themselves in the second following a 13-3 run that pushed the lead to 38-23 at the 3:56 mark of the quarter. Madonna cut the deficit back down to 10 points with 2:15 to play until the half, but the hosts wouldn't let the lead get any smaller as they held the visitor scoreless after that to take a 42-30 lead into the locker room.
The offense continued to improve into the third quarter as a 14-5 run from the Warriors, with all 14 points coming from Kauffman and Hill, extending Tech's advantage to 65-42 at the end of 30 minutes of action. The Orange and Black never looked back after that as they pushed their lead up to 28 points in the final quarter to improve to 4-0 on their home court.
Tech (8-1, 5-0 WHAC) returns to action Saturday, December 7 as they travel to No. 22-ranked Siena Heights University. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. from the SHU Fieldhouse.
