Strong Second Half Pushes Tech Past Saints

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Indiana Tech men's basketball team defeated Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) foe Aquinas College, 72-58, on Saturday afternoon inside the Sturrus Sports and Fitness Center.

Max Huber scored a game-high 15 points while adding seven rebounds and two blocks. Edmond Early, Jr. flirted with a triple-double with 12 points, eight rebounds and seven assists and picked up four steals. Dylan Phair and Lucas Lehrman each scored nine points with the latter grabbing seven rebounds and recording two blocks.

The Warriors got out to a 10-4 lead with Huber and Early combining for all 10 points while the visitors extended their lead up to eight points with 9:28 to play in the opening half. The Saints went on a 5-0 run to cut the deficit down to two points at the 6:50 mark and made it a one-point game three different times in the final two and a half minutes of the half, but Tech held off each charge with poise as they took a 28-25 lead into the locker room.

Aquinas tied the game up at 30 on their opening possession of the second half, but the Warriors countered with an 11-3 run to take a 39-31 lead. A triple from Early started a 9-0 spurt while a three minute and 12 second scoring drought put the Orange and Black up 48-34 with just under 13 minutes to play. The Saints came right back with a 7-0 run to cut the deficit down to seven, but that would be as closed as they would get to the Warriors, who led by as many as 18 points in the final 10 minutes of the game and shot 65.2% from the floor in the second half, to complete the season sweep.

Tech (17-11, 13-5 WHAC) heads into the final week of the regular season sitting in third place and one game ahead of Siena Heights. The Warriors host Lourdes University on Wednesday, February 13 in their final home game of the regular season. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. from the Schaefer Center.
