Tech Completes Weekend Sweep With Overtime Win

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men's ice hockey team won its 19th straight game on Sunday afternoon as they defeated Midland University in overtime, 5-4, to complete the three-game sweep of their North American Intercollegiate Hockey Association (NAIHA) rivals at the SportONE/Parkview Ice House.

"This was a great weekend against a quality opponent," said head coach Frank DiCristofaro. "We had many contributions up and down the lineup and that's what we're going to need down the stretch here."

Jarrett Pfeiffer put the Warriors up 1-0 with a power play goal at the 9:08 mark in the first, but Midland came right back with a power play goal of their own just over two minutes later. The cycle would repeat one period later as Joel Holmberg put Tech up 2-1 on the man-advantage with 12:16 to play in the second, only to see the visitors knot the game up at 2-2 with 5:33 to go thanks another power play.

Midland took a 3-2 lead into the third after scoring with 57 seconds to go in the second, but Mike Tish knotted the game up a 3-3 just 21 seconds into the period, while Tish would tie the game up a 4-4 with 9:28 remaining in regulation after Midland had gone back up at the 12:28 mark. The visiting Warriors had three chances to end the game in overtime, but Ryan O'Toole stood tall in goal to give his team the chance to win it as he assisted on the game-winning goal with 2:48 to play as Zach Bennett beat the MU goalie for the 5-4 victory.

O'Toole finished the game with 23 saves to improve to 12-3-0 on the season while Stavros Soilis had four assists.

Tech (24-3-0) returns to action next weekend as they host Concordia University (Mich.) in their final home series of the season. Puck drop on Friday is set for 7:30 p.m. from the SportONE/Parkview Ice House.
